Galapagos journals Day 19

Dear diary,

Guess what? Today, we went surfing!! I am sure you remember that it was what I asked for for my birthday, and my wish was granted. Not on my actual birthday day, but I decided that this year my birthday celebrations would last for the whole of three weeks we are in the Galapagos.

In just three hours of our surf lesson, I felt like I had learnt more than all of our time in Peru. I loved being back on the board and the feeling of surfing was exhilarating! Well, we did fit a lot in though and our instructor was a lot better, so we made more progress. Well... see how I look in the picture above.

It was also a fantastic beach! We got there early in the morning and we had the whole beach to ourselves for the first three hours. Just us, the waves and of course...the sea lions!

In the afternoon, we also went to a Tortoise Breeding Centre and it was fascinating! The place where we saw the most tortoises was the nursery, primary, secondary school and university, basically the cages for tortoises of different ages (from the very young tortoises until old enough to be released out in the wild again).

At the end of the day, we also went to a beautiful, and the only one in the whole of the Galapagos, fresh water lake. It was very cloudy when we went so the lake was misty and felt out of place on the island. It was in the middle of a crater (like everything in the Galapagos) and looked quite mystical.

We have just a couple of days left in the Galapagos. I feel quite sad because it's been such a brilliant and unique place to visit, but excited to be heading to country no7! Colombia, here we come...
